R&C PROJECTS

Collaborating with artists and fostering creative expression through new opportunities lies at the core of the brand’s vision.

Founded in 1997 by partners Sonja Rubin and Kip Chapelle, Rubin&Chapelle emerged as pioneers in New York’s burgeoning Meatpacking district, opening their first retail space there in 2002. Both designers are members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and have received numerous awards and nominations, including honors from Fashion Group International, the Smithsonian Institution, a Senatorial Citation, and the City of Vienna, Austria. Their collections have been featured in exhibitions at the MAK Museum in Vienna, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, and the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Their garments also belong to the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum at FIT.

Central to Rubin & Chapelle’s ethos is R&C Projects, a platform for collaboration with living artists. Through this initiative, the brand integrates artistic expression into its designs by hosting exhibitions in its boutiques and inviting artists to create bespoke patterns and textile prints. Past collaborators include Gregory Coates, Helga Davis, Berta Fischer, Mia Enell, Angelo Flaccavento, Axel Koschier, Edmundo de Marchena, Joseph Montgomery, Marcel Odenbach, Kottie Paloma, Hermes Payrhuber, Steven Rose, Aura Rosenberg, Semjon H.N. Semjon, Tamar Halpern, Wolfgang Stiller, Kara Walker, Atalay Yavuz, and many more.
